The Mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Muscatine County, a program of the Muscatine Community Y, is to help children reach their potential through professionally supported, one-to-one relationships with measurable impact.
The Vision of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Muscatine County, a program of the Muscatine Community Y, is successful mentoring relationships for all children who need and want them, contributing to better schools, brighter futures, and stronger communities for all in Muscatine, Louisa and Cedar Counties.
One of the biggest misconceptions about being a Big Brother, Big Sister or a Big Couple is that it means being a perfect role model. What it really means is being a friend, and bringing a little magic into your life and that of a child. Think back to when you were a kid. Who was it that brought magic into your life just by being there? Who do you always remember with a smile? Maybe it was an aunt who taught you to cook, or a neighbor who let you help him fix his car. Or maybe it was someone who just included you in everyday activities of life because it was fun ?– for both of you. Being a Big is one of the best decisions you will ever make. It means a chance to gain a new friend, and see the world ?– and be seen through fresh new eyes. No matter where you are in life right now, being a Big will make it better.
Get Involved!
Community Based Mentoring -
Volunteer to provide a child with one-on-one time and attention, typically once a week for an hour. Activities could include going to the park, spend time in your home, or come to the Y and play basketball. Through simple friendships, Big experience the joy of helping a child discover a world of possibilities and opportunities.
School Based Mentoring -
Volunteers meet with a child at school, once a week during the academic year. As the friendship evolves, volunteers and children discover ways to make school and learning fun! School Based Mentoring includes High School Bigs and Buddies, a corporate mentoring program.
In both programs professional staff is available to provide support and to answer questions.
To volunteer as a Big Brother, Big Sister, or Big Couple please print an application form and mail or drop it off at the Muscatine Community Y Attn: BBBS. We are here Monday through Friday from 9 to 5 and some evenings or by appointment. A simple application form is all it takes to be on your way to make a BIG difference in the life of an area child.

The Score Doesn?’t Matter!!
It?’s not about bowling! It?’s about having fun and taking part in an informal group outing with people you know and like. Bowl For Kids?’ Sake is our most important fundraising campaign. All money raised goes directly toward matching children in Muscatine, Louisa and Cedar Counties with the Big Brother, Big Sister or Big Couple who can help them reach their full potential. It?’s not your skill or your score that counts ?– it?’s your effort! For bowlers and sponsors alike, the greatest satisfaction comes from knowing you?’ve helped kids in your community.
Have Fun With Friends To Help Kids!
Bowl For Kids?’ Sake bowler and sponsors are people just like you who want to give back to children right here in our community.
