The Boynton neighborhood is a unique blend of both single family homes and multiple housing units, including low-income housing. It is located in West San Jose. We are proud of our socially and ethnically diverse neighborhood.
The Boynton Community Association was formed in 1990 in response to many neighborhood incidents of crime and blight. At that time, open drug dealing was prevalent as was home burglaaaary, car theft, loitering and general blight conditions. Over the past 10 years, neighbors have worked continuously with the District 1 Council's office, first Trixie Johnson, and now Linda Lezotte, to address some of their needs. In addition, the San Jose Police Department, San Jose Code Enforcement and the San Jose Parks and Recreation have worked with us to rid the area of the safety issues and create a nicer place to live.
Our accomplishments have been many. Monthly neighborhood meetings have been on going, a quarterly newsletter has been developed, and spring clean-up days have been held at the nearby Colonial Apartments. We have supported the creation of an Apartment Owners Association, street and traffic issues have been resolved, and a large five-year beautification plan for the San Tomas Creek has been implemented.
Most importantly, neighbors have met neighbors. Through our monthly meetings, BCA has brought out the issues that most concerned the residents in the area and one by one we have tackled them. We have brought in experts to advise us of the law and the resources we might use and the we empowered the neighbors to use the services available to them. We have gained support of the neighborhood businesses and formed partnerships with the schools and the church.
Our Association has adopted Starbird Park. We planted along the creek, have had park cleanup days and planted flowers at the sign on the corner of Boynton and Williams.
