Right now the aborted fetuses are disposed of at the request of the mothers. Different institutions have different protocols. Many times a fetus is aborted for medical reasons. In this case the intent of researching the fetus is scientific ie;to search for the reasons that the fetus may not have developed properly ie: genetic problems.

Babies who are aborted medically are not born alive. Even in late term abortions.

New Fetal Tissue Research Using Aborted Babies Vigorously Opposed in Nebraska

The ongoing ferocious debate over the use of brain tissue harvested from aborted babies grew even more intense when an Omaha, Nebraska, newspaper reported that the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) was not only using fetal tissue in experiments but obtaining it from the state's most notorious abortionist. There also is evidence the University of Nebraska's Board of Regents was given only limited and incomplete information about the federal grant which pays for the experimentation.

In a front-page story printed three days after Thanksgiving, the Omaha World-Herald revealed that abortionist LeRoy Carhart had been providing fetal tissue obtained from his Bellevue-based abortion clinic to UNMC for two years. UNMC officials said that fetal brain tissue was ''aimed at a better understanding of Alzheimer's disease,'' according to the Omaha World-Herald.

For now UNMC says it is researching whether such tissue can help a patient with Alz-heimer's. NRL News has printed any number of articles demonstrating that when actually tried such transplants have been abysmal failures and that there are far more promising alternatives.

In defending the use of fetal tissue extracted from the bodies of aborted babies, Dr. William O. Berndt, vice chancellor of UNMC, told the World-Herald, ''This is important stuff'' and ''The history of science tells us the important stuff always has been controversial.''

LDI EXPOSES TRAFFICKING IN BODY

Life Dynamics Incorporated (LDI), a pro-life organization in Denton, Texas, has uncovered a ''system in which the parts and sometimes the whole bodies of unborn children are being marketed like used cars'' by abortion clinics and a cross section of universities, some government bureaus, many private researchers and some pharmaceutical companies. Mark Crutcher, president of LDI recently released the first documentation of the atrocities and continues to accumulate evidence.

Dr. John Willke, president of Life Issues Institute and former president of National Right to Life Committee, is helping LDI show what is going on in the abortion industry. Life Dynamics has produced a videotaped interview with a whistleblower, who harvested fetal tissue at a Planned Parenthood clinic, and a booklet with copies of purchase orders faxed to Planned Parenthood abortion clinics between 1988-1998, price lists from two body parts wholesalers, and a sales brochure from one of the leading wholesalers.

The whistleblower, with her name changed to Kelly, is disguised on the videotape, because she fears for her life. Names of the purchasers of the orders are blacked out, because the investigation is still going on. However, in a letter which accompanies the Life Dynamics materials, Dr. Willke indicates that he has seen the originals and verifies those in the booklet.

According to LDI, Anatomic Gift Foundation and Opening Lines are two main players in the wholesaling of baby parts. These companies place employees in abortion clinics to harvest tissue, limbs, organs, etc., from aborted babies. Researchers want the most perfect specimens, and according to Kelly, her job was ''to dissect and procure tissue...for high quality sales.'' She revealed that abortion procedures were altered to obtain desired specimens, that often babies were born alive, then ''suffocated, stabbed or bludgeoned to death and their parts taken.'' Also, ''sometimes they were still alive when being chopped up for parts.'' The ages of the unborn babies ranged from seven to 30+ weeks. Kelly saw 30-40 late term aborted babies a week, i.e., ages 20 to 30+ weeks.

Parts sought included eyes, livers, cardiac blood, lungs, hearts, etc. According to a price list from Opening Lines effective until 12/31/99, body parts range in price from $50.00 for eyes from an 8 week old fetus to $999.00 for the brain of an 8 week old fetus. A 30% discount was offered if the brain was significantly fragmented. Remaining parts of the babies, Kelly revealed, were put down the clinic?’s garbage disposal. Any parts that were too large were kept in a box in a freezer. When the boxes, which could hold 60-70 fetuses were full, they were picked up to be incinerated.
Kelly came to Life Dynamics with the story of the body part trafficking about two years ago after an abortionist brought her a pan with 24 week old twins to cut up for parts. The problem was they were still alive and gasping for air. She told the abortionist she would not kill them, and began to walk from the room, ''I don?’t do this,'' she said, ''it?’s not in my contract.'' When she returned a few minutes later the babies had been drowned in sterile water. Kelly then went undercover, along with others, gathering documentation for Life Dynamics.
