Town of Braintree

Quirk

Posted in: Braintree
Tomorrow night @ 8pm, Dan Quirk will once again come before planning board to get an approval for a specail permit to fill in the dry docks at the Quincy shipyard. The one question that has been asked in his last 2 attempts is how is the fill going to be delivered. That question has yet to be answered. Remember that only 25% of the docks are in Braintree, the other 75% is in Quincy. I am pretty sure Quincy does not care if Braintree gets stuck w/ 100% of the trucks. What goes on at the shipyard will effect all of Braintree, if you care about your town, be there tomorrow to let your feelings be known. We need to let Quirk know that we care about what happens and that he cannot do whatever he wants.

EBR, What Are Alternatives?

We collect the taxes from Mr. Quirk, but not enable him to maximize reuse of his property? What do you suggest be done? Trailer trucks of fill coming down Rt. 53 from Rt. 3 seems logical to me no different than Clean Harbors routing of trucks. What's the big deal? If you want his taxes, be silent. If you don't want his taxes, raze a ruckus and be a NIMBY. Some of you people need to get a life.

Answer

Actually I am not a NIMBY, some of us just want what's right for Braintree. Only a samll portion of the shipyard is in Braintree, I am not sure that the taxes collected will be enough to cover the wear and tear on the roads and the potential loss in real estate taxes when the value of the homes in East Braintree drop. The only Town that will truley benefit from the shipyard will be Quincy and I have a feeling that Quincy is not looking out for the best interests of Braintree. To be honest Bert this NIMBY stuff is a load of crap, you either want what is best for Braintree or you don't. The problem is that the human factor is taken out of every decision becuase no one is willing to stick their neck out anymore. Bert, I will be there on Tuesday the 23rd, will you?
