Town of Braintree

If its broke fix it.

If your gas tank leaks you plug the leak before you put in more gas.

Folks keep saying that the override can only go for debt but, is this true? Yes and No. Does it matter where it goes? Bottom line it is an increased burden on you. More tax dollars to the town, less money in your pocket. Who gives a damn what they call it.

Let me suggest a few things;
The trash fee was enacted to free up cash for salaries.
We have neglected our infrastructure for a long time, favoring salaries.
We are about to give significant raises to our teachers.
We will do the same for other unions.
We are NINTH in the state for the portion of our budget which goes to the fire department. Our response time is good, 25th, but not in the top ten.
We are going to hire a significant number of firefighters. MUST WE?
We are going to hire a significant number of cops. Maybe I?’m not paying attention but, where?’s the crime wave?

We continue the pattern of putting salaries and hirings before all our other needs. This is not responsible. If we support an override we endorse this continued fiscal irresponsibility.

The feds and the state have abandoned their responsibilities to local communities. It?’s more important to spend money on weapons we can?’t use and tax breaks for corporations. We are expected to fill the gap. If we agree to an override we endorse this imbalance as well.

Locally our officials and Town Meeting members look to further pad the payroll with their family and friends.

And you suggest we endorse this mess and put more of our hard earned monies into the black hole which is our payroll.

Reduce our payroll, unfortunately we?’ll see layoffs and a hiring freeze (One where we don?’t hire anyone). Make do with what we have like homeowners do. Eliminate the trash fee which is really just a tool for political extortion anyway. Require something in return for raises from our unions. Silver Lake is seeking more time in the classroom from their teachers but we don?’t.

Small local business people and working people are paying more than their fair share of taxes at all levels already. If our schools can only prepare our children for a job at Walmart ( Where Mass Health provides free health care for their employees out of our tax dollars.) let Walmart pick up the tab.

I for one am tired of footing the bill for freeloading corporations. I will no longer be a part of the problem. After World War 2 corporations paid 80% of taxes and workers 20% now it is reversed?… 80% for me and you 20% for Walmart.

It?’s time for a revolt. Give me balance or give me death.

You Are Right Frank

I hope our leaders read your post and maybe then they will ''get it.'' When they ran for office they ran on platforms for fiscal responsibility but their actions speak louder than their shallow words. Your post makes it perfectly clear that our government must cease in their actions to win friends and influence unions and start acting responsibly and with integrity for the good of this town and all her citizens. Those of you who ran on platforms of service to and for the people, but who have shown the caliber of your leadership by voting to spend nonexistent funds, please step down; you have broken your fiduciary agreement with us.
