Greetings,
On January 1st I assumed command of the Mingo Valley Division for the Tulsa Police Department after commanding the Detective Division from April of 2008 until the end of 2010. I spent much of my career in what was then known as UDE as an officer, field supervisor, and captain and I am happy to be back. For those of you who do not know, Mingo Valley Division covers everything in the city limits south of highway 244 and east of Sheridan Rd.
I want to inform you about what is happening in your neighborhoods and get your help in protecting those neighborhoods. Earlier this year, I assigned an officer to revise the list of apartment complex managers, neighborhood associations, neighborhood watch groups, and homeowners associations that the City of Tulsa had compiled over the years. Carol bush and Mona Stark from the Citizen's Crime Commission were extremely helpful in that regard. Many of the organizations on that roster had outdated contact information or were no longer active. If you have contact information for others not on this list I would greatly appreciate you forwarding it to me or having them contact me.
I have attached a document intended to inform you of the latest crimes and suspect information in your area. I will do my level best to deliver this bulletin on a weekly basis. Please use and share this information to make yourself safer. Call us. Everything I have included is available through public sources, so there are no confidentiality issues. I have included contact numbers and email addresses for the appropriate investigative unit supervisor if you need additional information or have information to pass on relating to any of these cases.
This bulletin will contain crime information from the previous week and may include older information if it appears to still be relevant to you. I will not mention incidents that appear to be domestics, family involved, or in some other way lack the potential to affect your neighborhood as a whole. For example if a son steals the family car during a domestic dispute and the parents report that as an auto theft, I will not include information on that incident because it is not likely to affect you.
There are a lot of you. I will not regularly be able to break down crimes by specific association boundaries, but the maps should give you a good idea of what is happening near where you live or work. To protect the privacy of victims, I will not give specific addresses. I have broken down the crimes into categories for your convenience. When able, I will provide suspect and vehicle information and tie them to specific crimes or areas so you can more effectively watch out for your safety and that of your neighbors. There will be occasions when we have suspects named but I am only able to give you descriptions. I will never identify juveniles by name.
Please feel free to e-mail me with comments or questions at mkirkland@cityoftulsa.org.
I also invite all of you to visit our public website to learn more about the Tulsa Police Department.
