To provide community residents with the opportunity to gain insight and knowledge of horticulture, conservation, botany nutrition and civic involvement. We also strive to serve as an educational vessel.
The Dunton Block & Civic Association Inc.,
began as vehicle for neighbors to help control crime in the area during the late 70s early 80s. It has since grown into a community enrichment tool. From our initial Block Watchers program to winning the 2004 New Yorkers of New Award, the organization
manages to find new ways to meet the needs of an ever changing
community.
Dunton manages and cares for three protected open spaces, the Dunton, 181 Block, & Back to Eden Community Gardens. These gardens are open to the public and play host to most of our programs. In addition, two-thirds of all fruits and vegetables grown are given needy to families within the community.
Our programs focus on youth, community
involvement, neighborhood beautification, conservation and senior citizens. Our activities are designed to meet the needs and interests of each family member, from child to grandparent. The ages of participants range from 5 to 80 years old.
