Medicinal Plants Conservation Initiative
The aim of this Initiative is to build capacity for the conservation and sustainable use of medicinal plants. Case studies of good practice will be recorded (including on this website) and made available for others to use.
The conservation of medicinal plants is a huge challenge and Plantlife seeks to collaborate internationally with organisations with similar purposes. Currently the Medicinal Plants Conservation Initiative is being supported by grants from the Allachy Trust and the Rufford Maurice Laing Foundation.
A fund has been established - the Allachy Fund for Livelihoods from Wild Plants - to provide small grants for capacity-building in community-based plant conservation of medicinal plants in developing countries. Initial areas of concentration for the initiative include east Africa, the Himalayas and south-east Europe.
