Two weeks ago I planted Mammoth Dill, Sweet Basil, and Scarlet Runner Bean (I know -- that one's not an herb) in window boxes on my patio. I've watered them daily, but still no growth.
Shall I give them some more time, or have the seeds ''died?'' (We haven't had any frosts.) This is my first attempt at planting from seed, and I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Thanks for any advice!
Sharon

I've never grown Scarlet Runner beans. Some general info about basil and dill below. Seeds do not need daily watering. At most, you just mist the soil to keep it barely moist - you may have drowned the seeds. Also the soil temp is important, and should be kept consistent. Most seeds require soil temps around 15-23C, and nothing much will germinate at temps lower than 9C. Atmospheric temps have a bearing on soil temps, but if night temps are low, so will the soil temp be low. The amount of light, and the depth of sowing are also important.
Basil: Seeds usually germinate in 7-10 days, but can take several weeks. Ideal temperature for germination is 13-16C. Seeds need light to germinate and should be just barely covered.
Dill: Seeds are viable for 3 years and they require light to germinate. Dill seeds should be sown, lightly covered, in spring or early summer, where they are needed to grow, as they do not transplant well. Seeds take 7-10 days to germinate.
