Q. As I prepare to move my houseplants back indoors, I recall once hearing about dousing the soil with a solution to eradicate insects you wouldn't want inside. Can you tell me what this solution consists of?

The solution is H2O. All you have to do is submerge the pots in water and leave them there for at least an hour, but not more than three or four. Most of the summer invaders will swim to the surface, where they can be scooped up and destroyed.
