Thanks for the info. Mr. Langford. I had not ever seen that. According to that document, it is clear that the Mayor and the Council did what that plan requires of them. Fair enough. I would have hoped for more than the minimum, though. Is that fair, to expect more? That's one of my questions?
I also want to suggest that our Disaster Plan is inadequate and needs some tweaking. It does not address communication, except to put the entire burden of communicating on the constituent. Should there be a section added that addresses what and how the Mayor and the Council communicate with the neighborhood during such emergencies? That seems reasonable, doesn't it?
Is it reasonable to expect the Mayor and the Council to gather themselves, assess the situation, decide on a course of action, and then clearly, fairly, reasonably communicate that action to their constituents? (the bold part is what I am suggesting is lacking, the first section we seem to be able to do).
I guess I am suggesting that the Mayor and the Council take on the added task of serving as a clearinghouse of information during a crisis. But not a passive clearinghouse. During a crisis the need would be for a proactive center of information, the goal to be both collecting information and getting the information out in a thoughtful, thorough manner that would assure most, if not all, constituents stay informed and updated. I believe the web-site would merely have a limited audience, and during a power outage, an audience of almost zero.
