California Heights Neighborhood Lamppost Restoration Project

HELP PRESERVE OUR LOCAL HERITAGE

How would you like to be part of History? How would you like to help preserve some of our local heritage and at the same time receive a great tax credit for helping “light up the night in Cal Heights”?

The California Heights Neighborhood Association, in partnership with Long Beach Heritage, began a joint restoration in the Spring of 2000 to help restore 233 of California Heights historic lampposts. The lampposts were installed in the 1930's when California Heights was in its infancy. Over the years the lampposts have been altered and at times ill-maintained due to the economics of the time.

As a way to preserve our heritage for future generations, both the Cal Heights Neighborhood Association and Long Beach Heritage are offering our neighbors, friends, local businesses and anyone interested in the historical preservation of this community the opportunity to adopt a lamppost from the past.

By adopting a lamppost you will be able to preserve local history, gain community recognition and, as an added benefit, receive a tax deduction for next year’s taxes.

PARTICIPATE BY ADOPTING A LAMPPOST

There are three types of sponsorship: Patron sponsorship, Good Neighbor sponsorship and the Benefactor sponsorship.

The patron sponsorship is for those individuals, businesses or families that would like a specific lamppost in California Heights (this could be in front of your house or business). As a patron sponsor the lamppost can be dedicated to a single person or organization name. A permanent cast plaque will be placed on the base of the lamppost pole with your name and date of sponsorship. In addition, patron sponsors will receive an identical plaque to keep as a memento of the sponsorship. As a final recognition, your name will be added to the Heights newsletter in a special section highlighting lamppost sponsors. Patron sponsorship is $500.00. A tax deduction may be taken for the full sponsorship.

The good neighbor sponsorship is for those who would like to share a neighborhood lamppost. There are two options. You can either find four other families or neighbors who would like to share a specific lamppost or you can send in your individual application and you will be partnered with three other sponsorships in the general proximity of your home or business. A permanent cast plaque will be placed on the base of the lamppost pole with your name and date of sponsorship. As a final recognition, your name will be added to the Heights newsletter in a special section highlighting lamppost sponsors. Good Neighbor sponsorship is $125.00. The receipt may be used as a tax deduction for the following year.

The benefactor sponsorship is a donation towards this preservation project. Upon receipt of your donation, your name will be added to the growing list of lamppost sponsors in the Heights newsletter. A tax deduction for the value of your donation may be used in the following year.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE LAMPPOST RESTORATION PROJECT

100% of all proceeds collected will go towards the restoration of the lampposts in our California Heights neighborhood.

All submissions are on a first come, first served basis.

Please let us know which lamppost you would like to sponsor; we will do our best to accommodate your request.

Checks are made out to Long Beach Heritage, who in turn will send you a receipt.

The California Heights Neighborhood Association will send you a confirmation and/or your lamppost location.

All lamppost restoration will be done in increments of 20 lampposts.

The permanent name plaque will be molded into a replacement door for all of the restored lampposts. This decorative piece will also serve a function.
