Ok, so what if we plan a block party? For October?  We will try it one more time. If its a bust then the people that are interested can make up our own little get together?

That sounds like a good idea - if the community can't come together, then a few of us should.  We could take turns at each house.  We can play cards, we have some yard games (washers and bean bags) and just hang out and eat and drink.

I have lived here for a while.  Until so many people started losing their homes every week end we had a BBQ in someones drive way.  We all sat out in our garage playing cards while the kids (at one time about 20) played.  Several of us had even bought the big flood lights since night is cooler.  Unfortunalty all but one has moved.  It's a great way to meet the neighbors right around you.  If may also be fun if on a weekend there was some sort of event one of the parks.  I know the bouncers don't cast that much to rent and if people got together for something like an at the park pot luck.  That might be fun.  There are tons of things to do.  I do agree it is hard there are alot of empty houses.

I think some neighborhood things would be great. I've lived here a few years now and knew quite a few neighbors. However in the last 6 months or so, every neighbor I knew has either moved or forclosed. So, now I know no one. Since my husband is in Iraq, it'd be nice to know a few people in the neighborhood so that I at least felt safer. Since we don't have kids yet, we don't really meet people that way either.
