Each year, the Center for Economic Progress helps working families get the most out of tax time—not only benefitting individual families, but their communities as well.
We offer the following volunteer opportunities:
• Seasonal tax site volunteers: Volunteers serve as tax preparers or tax site assistants at our free tax sites for low-income taxpayers.
• Tax representatives: This is a year-round position with a flexible time commitment. Volunteers in our tax clinic to assist low-income taxpayers in resolving controversies with the IRS.
• Financial coaching: These volunteers help clients complete applications for federal aid for post-secondary education, encourage basic savings programs, assist with budgeting, etc.
• One-time volunteer opportunities: We offer one-time opportunities helping out with special projects in our office.
• Specialized: We are happy to work with volunteers to find opportunities that work with your interests, time availability, and location.
Who can volunteer? ANYONE! No prior tax experience is required. All necessary trainings are provided.
Where and when can I volunteer? We have a tax clinic at the Martin Luther King Center in Rock Island.
