Center Stage Theatre, Inc. (CST), Columbus Ohio's longest-running black theatrical organization, debuted in 1981 following the closure of its predecessor, Columbus Stage Center (1978-1980). CST continually served Columbus through 1997. In 2000 CST returned to continue its rich tradition of providing high-quality black theatrical entertainment.
OUR MISSION
CST is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the emotional, spiritual and physical well-being of diverse populations through artistic expression, inspired by a rich African-American experience. We seek to promote harmony and affect growth and positive change in the community by entertaining, educating, empowering, embracing and inspiring all who participate, regardless of age, race secual orientation or cultural heritage.
. Network with a variety of artistic groups
. Build appropriate working relationships using our extended-family approach
. Promote positive images of the history, culture and contibutions of African Americans and other minority groups.
. Identify artistic potential from all sources, including such non-traditional sources as rehabilitation centers for addictive behavior and homelessness
. Be open and flexible to allow growth in all aspects of theater and community service.
CST has stage such original productions as ''We're making a Joyful Noice,'' ''Cry The Children,'' ''Shadows and Other Living Things,'' and ''Hot Chocolate,'' and such well- known plays as ''Ain''t Misbehavin','' ''Purlie,'' ''Raisin,'' and ''Black Nativity.''
