NOVEMBER UPDATE

November 1-8
Over the past week, we have mowed your lawns shorter than usual to prepare for the colder weather. We have applied an organic pre-emergent weed suppresor called corn gluten. This binds to new weed seeds and does not let them develop. We do it at this time of year to inhibit winter weeds.

We have lightly trimmed all of the beds in the past week, and in some cases thinned out lantana to make a little room for panseys. The annual panseys were installed last week with a little booster fertilizer to get them going. UNFORTUNATELY, WE SEEM TO HAVE SOME HUNGRY DEER. We sprayed the panseys with soap, however, we have noticed that they have been eaten. We will be back to replace the ones that are gone with snapdragons--a less tasty alternative.

Early next week, we will be doing a light fertilization for the winter. This fertilizer will need to be watered in, so we will be turning on your sprinkler valves for 15 minutes as we go along. We will leave a note on your door, and it would be a good idea to do a light watering in the mornings for 2-3 days after fertilization.

We will also be touching up the mulch next week and doing spot weeding.

WATERING REQUIREMENTS: The ground is pretty saturated from the recent heavy rains. We will need to make sure that the fertilizer gets watered in lightly. If you are a relatively new homeowner, please make sure that your trees do not dry out. They need to have a moist root ball. This time of year a little hand watering once or twice a week will very sufficient if the tree is dry.

MEET YOUR ON-SITE SUPERVISOR

Michael Salvador is the new on-site supervisor for Park West. He is a master gardener with over 10 years experience in residential detail gardening. He will be doing all of your speciality bed work, walking the neighborhood at least once per week, and checking for items that we can improve upon, and supervising the mowing crew. SPECIAL NOTE: We have noticed that we need to do more detailing up near the front porches and side areas. Michael will be checking these areas on a regular basis.
