Neighborhood Watch

DO WE NEED NEIGBORHOOD WATCH?

Yes. Recently we have had problems of broken car windows, stolen cars, theft from homes and a bullet hole in someone's siding. We all want to feel safe.

Last November a group of us started organizing Neighborhood Watch in Cobblestone. Right now we are within 20 households of required percentage to be recognized by the Police Department as a Neighborhood Watch area. Most of you have already been contacted and signed up for NW. If you have not, then please fill out the information below so that you can be counted as part of the total. If you are not sure if you have been listed or not, fill out the form anyway. We can check to see if you are already listed. Summer is coming and we will all appreciate the increased safety Neighborhood Watch will provide. Please sign up below now.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF NEIGNBORHOOD WATCH?

Joining NW will give us a more personal relationship with the Westminster police force. It will enable us to put up Neighborhood Watch signs, which statistically have been shown to be a deterrent to crime. We can publish a list of Neighborhood Watch members who are acquainted with their own areas and will help to watch out for you and your property. You can request Block captains to watch your homes if you planning to be away for any length of time. (If you tell us you are on vacation we will know you are not selling your tv and will take appropriate action if it tries to walk out the door.) Those of us who have worked on NW have enjoyed meeting our neighbors and feeling more a part of the community.

WHAT ARE THE DISADVANTAGES OF JOINING NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH?

None that I can think of. You are NOT being asked to provide anyone with personal information or spend any more time than it takes to fill out the form and list your valuables. You are asked to make a list of make, model and serial number of anything that has a serial number, such as tv, sound system, computers, etc. This list is for YOUR USE ONLY. You are asked to keep it in a safe place so that in the event something IS stolen, the information can be provided to the Police Department and it can be traced. If you have insurance for specific items on your insurance policy this information is on your policy and don't even have to crawl behind your TV with a flashlight. You will also be invited to join the "Neighborhood Night Out", a social event sometime this summer.

Participation of everyone is NOT required. We just need to have some participation. I'm sure we will have enough representatives willing to go to the event.
