Columbine Estates was founded in 1965 as a neighborhood of 106 lots, with each lot having a minimum of 2.5 acres. The character of the neighborhood provide open space with unparalelled views of Pikes Peak and the front range. The subdivision was established to provide the option for owning horses and gardening. Each home is supplied water from one of three aquifers.
Columbine Estates, along with Falcon Estates and Yorkshire Estates, joined the city in 1994.
