Our volunteer members provide communications during disaster and emergency operations when they occur, and for community events where public safety can be increased through additional radio communications by our members. We coordinate both parades held in the Canyon Lake area, the Christmas Parade in Sattler, TX and the July 4th Parade held in Startzville.
But some of our members are licensed Amateur Radio Operators and all have GMRS licenses.
We can help you study for your Technician license (no code) or to apply for your GMRS license (no testing required). The Team will cover the expense of your GMRS license if you agree to remain an active member. (what other kind of members would we need, if not active?)
GMRS radios rquire a 5 year license at a cost of around $80, but the license covers your entire family for legal operations. We have two GMRS repeaters in the area which allow our mobile radios to have up to a 50 mile range of coverage. Our Canyon Lake repeater covers the entire Canyon Lake area and down to San Antonio. The San Antonio Repeater covers most of San Antonio and surrounding areas primarily to the north and east of town. Coverage on the west side of San Antonio is a bit sparse due to a high ridgeline between the repeaters and that area at present time.
Comal County REACT is well known and respected for it's search dog teams. We have been called out by law enforcement and the Heidi Search Center of San Antonio for numerous searches, usually several times per month. Our record of finding the missing person is very high, above the normal average for such activities.
