ADHD Group
Six Classes Begins week of Feb 25 Ages 6-10

Activity-based group for ages 6-10 with ADHD. Therapeutic games provide a fun way for your child to improve social skills. Through non-competitive and cooperative play, the children work on issues such as impulse control, body awareness, reading social cues, and attentiveness. The games are designed to build self-confidence and to provide a supportive environment.
Social Skills Building Group
Six Classes Begins week of Feb 25 Ages 6-11

Group offered to elementary school aged children to improve social skills. Activities allow the children to practice social interactions in a safe environment. Practical skills addressed include how to build friendships, how to compromise, and how to communicate.
Strategies/Study Skills

This course will focus on the many strategies that can be used by students in their classrooms. Active learning (pre-reading, pre-writing, cooperative learning groups) will be encouraged and pre-planning and organizational strategies will be taught. The instructor will provide as much practice and review as possible so that students can apply the strategies they learn to a variety of subjects (science, social studies, etc.). The objective of the course is to help students to experience mastery and success so they understand the benefits of using specific strategies.
Reading Smart
Six Classes Grades 4-6

Reading doesn't have to be a chore. Once you learn a few strategies, it can even be fun. This course was created to help children who have a hard time keeping up with assignments, understanding novels, or just reading efficiently. Through the use of interesting and fun readings we will increase your reading speed and comprehension with techniques like pre-reading, pen-marking, mapping, clustering, and more. The objective of the class is to help the reader get the most out of everything read.

During our time together we will read and discuss some literature that has been out for decades and some literature that is new to the scene. The ways that we work with these books will be numerous and varied. It may be through the use of puppets, drawings, poems, and other art forms.
