Concerned Citizens of Mountain View

Citizens of Mountain View Meeting Minutes

May 26, 2005

Purpose: The citizens of Mountain View met at the Town Hall park for the purpose of discussing the current situation at Lakeside Amusement Park. Currently there are several poorly cared for trailers on the corner of W. 44th and Sheridan Blvd. The area looks like a shanty town and has impeded businesses from establishing on the Mountain View side of that intersection. Attempts to speak with Rhoda Krasner have resulted in no action on her part. In addition to the poor living conditions for those who live there, there has been a decrease in the appraised value of Mountain View homes. Safety concerns were also expressed for the trailers on the west fence, the old race track and the multitude of barrel drums near the lake.

Action Taken: Prior to the meeting several citizens had called and / or e-mailed Channel 7, 9 and Fox 31. The Fox 31 investigator did come out on Mother’s Day and interviewed both Mountain View citizens and Rhoda. They also shot several pictures of the situation. The County Health Department, Senator Moe Keller and Immigration Services had been notified.

Response: We are currently waiting on Immigration Services to respond to the call. As mentioned above, Fox 31 did interview both parties and are interested in continuing to follow the situation. County Health is currently investigating and when a full report has been obtained, it will be shared with the residents. Senator Moe Keller spoke with Rhoda who stated that she was planning on putting up a fence, but that the State Highway Dept was planning to widen the curve in that intersection. We are currently contacting them to see if that is true.

Suggestions:
-Create a web site to notify citizens and keep them updated as issues arise.
-Speak with Denver and Wheat Ridge officials.
-Send a certified letter to Rhoda.
-Picketing on the affected intersection.
-Placing signs along 44th and Sheridan much like the Wal-mart protest signs. A
suggested phrase was; “Lakeside, we are not amused”.
-Speak to the businesses along 44th.
-Contact EPA concerning the race track and barrels.
-Investigate if Lakeside Park has had any safety citations.
-Investigate the crime rate for Lakeside.
-Lakeside Center is not owned by Lakeside Amusement Park. Investigate who the owner
is and contact them.
-Network with other communities who have developed their areas such as Villa, Olde
Arvada, Highlands.
-Contact State legislators. It will be more effective if everyone contacts them.

Agreements: Home phone numbers, addresses and e-mail addresses will be shared with everyone. This is for Mountain View business only and not for any other purpose. Please do not share with anyone not involved with this issue. Be sure to write on your e-mail that this is Mountain View business. Otherwise, if not recognized, it may not be opened.

Everyone who is willing needs to contact our legislators. The Capitol Directory lists both the office number and their home phone number. You can write them, but it is generally better to e-mail as letters tend to make congress people skiddish these days. The session is over for the summer so it may be easier to reach them at home.
Senator Moe Keller: (w) 303-866-2585 (h) 303-425-0130
Representative Cheri Jahn (w) 303-866-5522 (h) 303-424-0086

Proposal: To put together regular citizen meetings to update and plan how best to resolve this issue. It seems as though resolution will take a great amount of time and effort. If you are willing to make calls, etc, please let Teresa, John or Penne know. Next meeting will be Thursday, June 9th at 7 PM at the Town Hall Park. Please look at the attached proposals and come with changes, ideas, etc.
