Lies and more lies

An article in the Broomfield Enterprise, 4/8/00, tells us that Broomfield officials ?“want to
shake loose about $600,000 from the state to help pay for startup costs for the future city
and county of Broomfield?”. It later says ?“the Governor?’s Task Force for the city and
county of Broomfield Thursday agreed to lobby state agencies for startup funding?”.

Yet, it was only a year and a half ago, when Referendum C, creating the City and County
of Broomfield, was promoted to state voters with a promise of no cost to taxpayers. In
the Denver Rocky Mountain News, 11/8/98, Larry Cooper, then a City Council member
and leader of the group supporting Referendum C, is quoted as saying ?“Over and over,
people in different parts of the state said ?‘I can?’t believe we have to vote on this?’. We
had to convince them that voting for Broomfield County would not cost them anything.?”

Does anyone believe that $600,000 is all that will be asked for from the State? Is there
any way these costs won?’t be paid by state taxpayers? Broomfield officials told voters it
wouldn?’t cost them anything, so doesn?’t it seem that the Task Force and the State should
deny this request because of the promise? Shouldn?’t Broomfield be held to its word, or is
this just a case of one lie leading to more lies by excusing the first?

Contact all legislatures and senators, the governor, with this latest. No monies should come from the state for Broomfield. Check under state pages; most have e addresses.

How to Bankrupt a City/County

Gosh... is the state of Colorado going to bail out the lying city council of Broomfield?

They apparently did not get the desired funding on their Washington trip.

Now these lying idiots plead with the state to save their sorry asses?

How much more pathetic can they get?

Broomfield goes bankrupt

These certificates of participation are only one avenue of the "blank check" scheme so many were concerned about. Broomfield sells everyone on them as they do not increase taxes? They are debt whether they are touted as such or not. If Broomfield fails to make payment on these, the asset becomes the certificate holders. In other words, Broomfield could pay on these for ten years, if for some reason payment is not made, we lose the asset,in other words for ten years we would have lost all the money paid into these and that asset. Not only that, but all to make sure payments are made, other much needed budgets will be drained as funds are appropriated to pay the debt.

These certificates of participation are dangerous and Orange County California can vow this first hand because this is what bankrupted them. Supreme court would not allow them to file bankruptcy and ordered them to pay up. Makes you wonder what kind of debt we are really in.
