speed bump reply

A neighbor wrote:
'' I remember our dismay when we first moved to Tennessee and found our
mailbox smashed by youths - or when my little daughters' carefully
carved jack-o-lanterns were smashed by youths who thought it was
funny. It happened in Tennessee - and it has never happened in any of
the other places we have lived - California, Texas, Missouri, and
Virginia, to name a few. Large cities and rural settings.
Have we gotten so frustrated and unable to deal with the problem that
we are willing to punish everyone to deal with an occasional
offender?''

My reply:
What is wrong with you? Vandalism and criminal activity happen
EVERYWHERE! If you had stayed in one place long enough, it would have
happened to you in one of those other ''Safe Places'' that you lived.
In case you have not noticed most of the speeders are grown adults.
People that think they are above the law. The teenagers do speed but
I see tons of adults from all age categories speeding. And the speed
humps, not bumps, do not in any shape, form, or fashion damage a
vehicle.

Please no speed bumps!

They will definitely reduce our property values.......and they are a huge inconvenience to the rest of us who drive the speed limit. I lived in a neighborhood in Southern Calif that installed speed bumps, and the housing values dropped considerably. Those speed bumps made our streets look like apartment parking lots. So please, let's be personally responsible for our driving habits and let the speeders get nailed by the police.
Speed Bumps

Read with interest the post about speed bumps. I am vehemently opposed to speed bumps. I have quit going by Dillards in the mall and to Home Depot because of this! The streets are intended for people to drive to and from their homes - they are not a park setting for walking dogs etc. Mayor McDonald said ''there would be no need for speed bumps when they took us in and he got the additional patrolmen out here. Where are they??
Speed Bumps

I certainly agree that we DO NOT need or want speed bumps. They would destroy the whole look and feel of our neighborhood, and if you have a car which is lower to the ground it strikes the bottom each time you go over one of they pain in the neck bumps.
I too have boycotted the mall area and across the street in the Chili's/Home Depot lot because of the horrible bumps. I will avoid those lots and shop elsewhere to avoid them.

Putting in speed bumps won't keep kids from drivng in your yard but they certainly might decide to drive through your yard to avoid the speed bumps. So consequently speed bumps might cause more problems than we already have!

I really have not noticed a lot of speeding in our neighborhood.

Wake up people, the answer to the problem is parents that care enough to know what their kids are doing!
