Successful Year In The Neighborhood

We had a very exciting and successful year last year. Over 100 people came to our Denniston Park rededication picnic in October 2001. The party was to celebrate the parks 110th birthday and to dedicate the new park equipment. Fire Station number 14 was well represented and able to stay long enough to blow out the parks birthday candles. The wonderful birthday cakes were supplied by Homeland Bakery at NW 39th and Penn. Bill and Irene?’s Flower Shop supplied a beautiful arrangement of balloons for our Denniston Park entry sign. Many neighbors donated door prizes including Mike Rankin donated two shrubs, Deana Jones donated hair cuts, neighbors on Drexel donated a coupon for Soup and Salad, Hostess discounted the hotdog buns, Big-O Tires donated an alignment, Security Lock donated a free key for every neighbor attending, Dental Depot donated t-shirts, Oklahoma Department of Transportation Public Affairs donated several promotional items on their anti-litter campaign, and our Grand Prize was two round trip Amtrak tickets from Rail Program, ODOT. We had excellent press coverage with Channel 25, KTOK Radio and The Oklahoma Gazette. The Daily Oklahoman wrote an article on neighborhood playgrounds and featured a photo of our Denniston Park.
