ANNUAL MEETING
January 22, 2011
The second annual meeting of the Des Moines Historical Society was held January 22, 2011 at the Spaghetti Works on Court Avenue. The program included information about the various Polk County Courthouses since 1846.
President Pat Meiners reported on the State of the Society, and activities of the DMHS during 2010. The quarterly DMHS meetings have covered the topics of Court Avenue, The South Side, Historical Entertainment and Amusement, and the East Village by Sarah Oltrogge. This year the DMHS led in the commemoration of the Centennial of the current Des Moines City Hall (Municipal Building). The President also conducted a bus tour of historical sites around downtown and the East Village for the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute and has been on WHO-TV 13 with Andy Fales relating information about famous Des Moines residents, and helped Aaron Brilbeck with a report about a ‘Cold Case’ from 1922. To help acquaint the city residents with the DMHS, a tree was decorated for the Festival of Trees and Lights, and a 1931 Model A pick-up truck was in the BeaverFest Parade. Natasha Moore represented the DMHS at the Iowa Museum Association Annual Meeting.
The elections results were: Pat Meiners, President; Natasha Moore, Vice President; Rick Meiners, Secretary; Ted Lussem, Treasurer; and David Coates, Karen Hanley, Sarah Oltrogge, Tim Payne, and Jacob Shoemaker, Board Members.
