June 2007 Desert Village Newsletter

Jun 21, 2007

Now that the Hughes unit has sold, we can get down to the business of running Desert Village. Except for a few problems, which we will try to sort out, things are pretty calm.

The palm trees are due to be trimmed by the end of the month. There is always the problem of wanting to trim them too soon because they do cause a lot of mess on the pools and the grounds. We just learned from the roofer last year, that a lot of the damage to the roofs is caused by the palm tree fronds landing on the roofs. They come straight down like arrows and drive straight into the foam, necessitating expensive repairs. He is going to identify the worst offenders, and they will be removed. As we have well over 100 palms on the grounds, we will still have more than enough.

Next year we will try to get the palms trimmed a little earlier. The big problem with that is that they regrow those pesky little fronds that cause all the mess, so we have to try to pick the optimal time to trim.

We want to ask everyone who comes here to please close the gates to the pools. We find some gates open every day, and as you can imagine, that could cause a disaster.

We realize the grounds have suffered during the past year, but the money came in too late to do anything about it this spring, so it will have to wait until fall.
