I have brought up this subject a few times before but still see pets being advertised for free. I would like to remind members that Tucson and surrounding areas unfortunately have the illegal and horrendous sport, and I use that term loosely, of dog fighting. The people who are involved in this activity search newspapers for free animals. They collect these innocent animals, put them in bags, hang them up and turn their fighting dogs loose on them to tear apart which keeps up the fighting dog's blood thirst.
Now I know you probably didn't know this happened or you would never have offered your pets up for free.
Our pets trust us to take care of them, to care for them for their entire short lifetimes. They love us unconditionally, more than any other being on Earth sometimes. Then, they are given away and cannot figure out where the person they love has gone. They are confused and upset.
If you get a dog or cat, you should be willing and able to take care of this little helpless animal for it's entire life. We should be willing to give them a comfortable family home, not just tossed in the backyard but kept with the family, we should be able to provide it with Veterenary care to include yearly shots, dental care and emergency surgical care if necessary. We should provide good food, daily walks and play.
If we cannot provide these things and the guarantee of living their lifetimes with us, then do not get one. Do situations change? Do we find we have to move one day? OK, those things happen. Having a hard time finding a place that allows pets? Too bad, keep looking until you find one that does allow them.
Now I know I sound tough-minded on this subject but these are little living , feeling, loving, trusting and innocent beings I am talking about here. Again I say, if you cannot provide everything I have said here for their short lives, DO NOT GET IT.
