Dear Neighbor,

Recently the Douglas Downs Homeowners Association board members have both witnessed and received complaints regarding pets roaming freely throughout the neighborhood as well as pets relieving themselves on neighbor?’s lawns without pet owner waste retrieval.

This is a Serious Issue !!

The Association board would like to emphasize our covenants and remind all pet owners of the following two items:

?· Both Douglas Downs Homeowner Covenants and Fulton County government have established a ?“leash law?” for our neighborhood. Pets should at all times be on a leash when off of the pet owners property. If you have a pet that roams freely thoughout the neighborhood, it is clearly within the rights of another neighbor to contact Fulton County Animal Control and request your pet be picked up.

?· It is a matter of common courtesy as well as the responsibility of a pet owner to retrieve any pet wastes deposited on lawns and/or public areas. While this is not a pleasant task it must be done.

What can each of us do?
In order to help elleviate the situation that is occurring, it is recommended the following actions be taken in each of the situations mentioned above.

1. If either of the situations above are witnessed by you and you know the pet owner, please communicate politely to that pet owner regarding the situation. If you do not know the pet owner you can contact an Associate board member for assistance in owner identification. If the situation continues to occur then...

2. If the issue is regarding roaming pets, you may Contact the Fulton County Animal Control at 404-794-0358 for animal pick-up.


As a Pet Owner what are my responsibilities?
As a pet owner you have not only accepted the responsibility of caring for an animal you also have accepted the responsibility for any actions your pet may take. As a result, it is expected that you will adhere to the following guidelines:

1. Maintain your pet under control at all times while outside.
2. Do not allow your pet to roam the neighborhood unattended
3. Do not allow your pet to trespass on other neighbor?’s property
4. Retrieve any waste deposits from lawns
5. Ensure your pet has proper identification tags regarding ownership
6. Of course, provide all the love and care you can to your pet


Facts about Fulton County Animal Control
If your pet is picked up by Animal Control you can expect.....
?· To Drive approximately 35 miles to downtown Atlanta to retrieve your pet
?· To provide mountains of identification and proof of ownerhship
?· Pay a $45 inpound fee plus $5 per day for boarding
?· See your pet sharing not so luxurious accomodations with an average of 50 new strays picked up daily
?· Have your loving pet put to sleep if you can not pickup within 3 business day.
