BROWNSBORO ROAD IMPROVEMENTS UNDER WAY

A Letter From Councilman Fleming

Mayors,

I am happy to announce that on Monday the speed limit on Brownsboro Road from Chenoweth Lane to Rudy Lane was lowered to 35 mph. This is the second recommendation of the traffic study to be implemented. I am hopeful that this will assist in making the Brownsboro Road corridor a safer place to live and travel.

In addition, the state has agreed to fund $350,000 of this project and I have been able to secure an additional $300,000 of Metro funds. Moving forward, the state will manage the Country Lane improvements, which include the addition of turning lanes on Brownsboro Road, new traffic lights, and making the intersection more pedestrian friendly. Based on a meeting with the City of Rolling Fields, I conveyed to the State that turn lanes on Country Lane were not needed, other than possibly applying new striping. The State is deciding if the design work can be accomplished in-house.

Metro Public Works will manage the improvements at Chenoweth Lane, Old Brownsboro Road and Pennington Lane. Our top priorities at this time are Chenoweth Lane followed by Old Brownsboro Road\ Brownsboro Road (Highland Cleaners intersection). It was determined that the Chippewa intersection will not be included in the scope of work based on the lack of accident statistics out of this intersection and conversations with residents. Over the next couple of weeks, Public Works will begin the process of issuing a RFQ for design work for these two intersections, and possibly the Pennington Lane improvements. Given the configuration and logistics of any changes to the Pennington Lane/Brownsboro Rd./Old Brownsboro Rd intersection, it was decided that this intersection will be included only as a option and placed fourth in the priorities. It is hoped that we will see construction begin on the Chenoweth Lane improvements early next summer.

It is my intent to keep you informed and ask for comments with the design of each intersection that pertains to your immediate area.

Thank you for your support of this important project. As always, if you would like to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Ken

Kenneth C. Fleming
