Brownsboro Road Safety Improvements
Last year in the FY 2007 budget, I secured $25,000 to conduct a study of the Brownsboro Road corridor. After having several meetings with representatives from suburban cities, state and metro government and holding two public meetings, the results of the study were released on June 18. The study, performed by HDR/Quest, was very thorough and recommended the following improvements:
Country Lane
Short Term Options:
• Trim vegetation (bushes, hedges, etc.)
• Create a box configuration for the traffic signals
Long Term Option:
• Add a left turn lane
Pennington Lane
Short Term Options:
• Trim vegetation
• Define the road by adding pavement markers (i.e. stop bars, etc.).
Long Term Options:
• Re-locate Old Brownsboro Road so that it intersects with Pennington Lane further north. Addition of new vegetation and parking spaces for use by the church and the commercial development
Chenoweth Lane:
Short Term Options:
• Trim vegetation
• Split phasing of traffic signals
Long Term Option:
• Add a left turn lane on north and southbound Chenoweth Lane.
Old Brownsboro Road/Chippewa Road
Short Term Options
• Trim vegetation
• Define the road with pavement markers
Long Term
• Limit Chippewa and Old Brownsboro to right in/right out only
Another long-term option that was discussed was the addition of a left turn lane on Brownsboro Road from Country Lane to Chenoweth Lane.
I was able to secure $180,000 toward these improvements in the FY 2008 budget. Moving forward, I will be working with Metro Public Works, the Kentucky Department of Transportation, and suburban city officials to determine the priorities for this project and to secure additional funding.
