OUR HISTORY

Where We're located

Dwight Street Block Association is located from Bergen Avenue between Martin Luther King Drive and Ocean Avenues in Jersey City, New Jersey. Our neighborhood is commonly known as D-Block, which we wish to diminish immediately.

We're working on getting incorporated under the laws of the State of New Jersey and are currently seeking to become a 501(c) 3 organization under Federal IRC regulations.

A volunteer board of directors made up of block residents and homeowner’s runs the block association. The board meets on the third Thursday of the month; block residents are welcome to attend. If you’re interested in meeting the members of the board, raising an issue for board discussion, serving on a special committee, or becoming a board member, feel free to contact a board member.

History of the Block Association
The block association was founded in 2004 in reaction to a rising tide of street crime, drug trafficking and gang bangers on the block and in the belief that unified neighbors contribute importantly to the quality of life we felt the need to get an organization started.
Many times we have our monthly meetings we invite our local politicians, councilwomen, police chief etc., to bring up the many concerns and issues that we may have on hand.

Volunteering your time is another way of becoming more involved your community. Not only does it give you a chance to give back to your community, it can also help you gain valuable experience while expanding your social networks.

Membership and Dues

Members are asked to pay monthly dues in the amount of $10 to the block association. Members participate in the block association’s programs, and enjoy all the benefits of them, whether they pay dues or not.

Our Purpose

The block association was founded to promote the safety and general welfare and to preserve and improve the quality of life of our immediate community.

Our main goal is to:

Build A Stronger Community, Broaden Citizen participation, Encourage Community Service, Promote Youth Civic Responsibility, Support Education, Improve Neighborhood Appearance, Uphold the Law, Reduce Recidivism.
