While East Chicago has a history of ethnic diversity, manufacturing and industry, the present day neighborhood is primarily residential with quiet streets. Residents enjoy pretty Rowan Park and their own nature preserve, Eggers Woods Forest Preserve. Housing is eclectic in the low to moderate price range and the neighborhood has both public and private schools.
