Pipeline Project Now Under way

Jan 20, 2000

The Mid-City Pipeline Project is now under construction, as everyone knows, but maybe you didn?’t know that the stretch of El Cajon Blvd. all the way from 54th Street to 63rd will be excavated on both sides of the street. The 48?” Mid-City Pipeline will run on the south side of the street; a new 16?” distribution line to serve our local streets will replace the old line on the north side that breaks frequently and keeps that stretch of El Cajon in a constant state of disrepair. Plans call for resurfacing of the street, and we can even hope for a refurbishing of the entire intersection at 54th & El Cajon.
Most of the work will be carried out at night, from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday, to minimize traffic disruption and is scheduled to begin by the end of January, probably even as you are reading this Newsletter.
No interruptions of water service are planned, we are told, but you may notice this change once the project begins: during installation of the new 16?” pipe, water will be carried in temporary surface lines that may heat up on hot days; if water arrives at your tap a little warm, that?’s why. Installation of our local 16?” line is scheduled for completion by late spring or early summer this year; completion of the entire Mid-City project should be about spring 2002. The city has established a 24-hour hot line for anyone who wants to ask questions about the Mid-City Pipeline Project. Call Tedi at 533-6637.
