Street work on 60th Street, on Adelaide Avenue between 60th and College, and on Carol, Bradford, and Meade is under way now or will be soon. The project will replace ancient water and sewer lines and should be completed by mid-June. Expect some inconveniences using those streets while construction goes on, but the contractor will endeavor to work on only 200?’ of frontage at a time. The city project manager for this work is Luis Duenes, 627-3262.
The Rolando Street Fair is scheduled for March 26. Look for balloons, games, music, and booths set up by our local merchants. Great fun for the kids!
Sav-on Drugs and Office Depot will occupy the property at 62nd and El Cajon where the Hitching Post used to be. Word going around is that the whole corner will be spruced up with some outstanding architecture and lots of plantings.
Submarina and Little Caesar?’s Pizza now occupy the building at the corner of College and El Cajon and are now open for business.
The College-Rolando Branch Library is still in the works -- don?’t give up on it! City committees are working with architects on structural design and on sources of funding, both local and state. There may be an opportunity to vote on a state-wide library funding measure this year.
The Ray & Joan Kroc Center is now being developed on Unitversity Avenue, at the site of the the old Home Depot. It?’s on schedule and should be fully operational by 2002. The Center has already begun lining up volunteers to help with its many athletic and educational programs.
College Grove Center is opening more new stores: Staples is supposed to open this month or in February -- has anyone checked? Pic ?’n Save will open in February; Wal-Mart and SAM?’s Club will open in March.
The former location of Wells Fargo Bank at 62nd & El Cajon will soon house new medical offices.
