Eliot was one of the early neighborhoods settled on the east banks of the Willamette. Originally part of the City of Albina, it later became part of Portland.
From the rail yards near the river, through the old downtown of Albina, past the institutional uses near Vancouver Ave, into the residential neighborhood full of historic houses to the commercial enterprises along MLK Blvd, Eliot embodies diversity. The same is true of the people who live here, with a variety of incomes, beliefs, and ancestors. The challenge will be to preserve, strengthen and celebrate this diversity.
