Created in 1996, F.I.D.O. is Fed-up with Irresponsible Dog Owners in Denver. Our main focus has been on the problem of irresponsible owners who won't control their dog's barking. We are a support group for victims of excessive barking. We are a lobbying group that encourages Denver city government to improve and enforce city code to provide relief for Denver residents being tortured by barking. F.I.D.O seeks legal, non-violent solutions to the problems created by irresponsible dog owners.
Many F.I.D.O. supporters own dogs, but they do so responsibly. Dogs are pets, companions, and "best friends." But these sensitive, intelligent creatures should not be abandoned to bark at every passer-by and every squirrel. F.I.D.O says, "People who want a burglar alarm should buy a burglar alarm!"
The folks who represent us on City Council are now term-limited; so is the Mayor of Denver. As the political season approaches, candidates need to hear from F.I.D.O. supporters. We need creative solutions to the barking epidemic.
For example, what if land lords were given a property tax credit to improve security of rental houses? Renters who keep dogs because their houses are insecure could then enjoy the enhanced security of better locks and alarm systems. Instead of being abandoned in the yard to bark, these "watch dogs" could become good neighbor pets.
When F.I.D.O. supporters can encourage office seekers to "hang their hats" on solving the barking problem, we can achieve a win-win solution for all involved.

Denver needs creative solutions. For instance, many folks who rent homes in Denver keep dogs because the houses they rent are not very secure. What if landlords were given a property tax credit to improve security with better locks and alarms? Perhaps lower city revenues would be offset with a reduced need for city agencies to respond to burglaries and complaints about barking. When F.I.D.O. encourages politicians to "hang their hats" on creative solutions, we can achieve a win-win for all concerned.
