Members Present: Kathleen Gagnon-Witter, Steven Witter, Jim Barrett, Tracy Gratto, CL Smith, Helena Heartt, Celia Tidwell
Guests Present: Officer Sue Kahut
Announcements:
See attached sheet
The minutes from the June meeting were read and approved. Jim Barrett moved to approve the minutes, and Steven Witter seconded. The minutes were passed unanimously.
Police Officer/Crime:- Officer Sue Kahut (pronounced Kay-hoot) is our new neighborhood liaison officer. Officer Kahut discussed the news that only Central precinct is open all night. NE and SE precincts now close at 8pm. Central precinct can be reached (non-emergency) at 503-823-0097. Plan on leaving a message for the officer, who will probably return your call the next day. Steve Witter moves to write a letter from the NA complaining of the precinct evening closures. Jim Barrett seconds. All vote in favor of FPNA writing a letter to Mayor Vera Katz complaining of the precinct evening closures.
Car prowls are of special concern in the summer months, and if you see something suspicious, call non-emergency number and file your concern. There is a special task force in SE Precinct to work on car prowls.
Updates:
Alleys/Nuisance; The alleys between SE 62nd and 67th are being cleaned up with extra 2000 fiscal year funds from FTAP. This will be happening this month. For questions, please contact
Kathleen Gagnon-Witter. A flyer will be distributed to those who live on the affected alleys explaining what happened, and what their responsibilities are.
Clean up revenue prediction: Shanna at SEUL believes that we raised $500 in funds for this years clean up. That number needs to be confirmed.
Onyx: Litter at fence is still an issue. Kathleen called Christine at Onyx and asked that they pick up the litter on their side of the fence on a regular basis. Litter on the west side of the fence looks like it is coming from the apartment complex adjacent. This issue is ongoing and needs to be followed up on with the apartment complex owner/nuisance.
FTAP: Steve Witter updated us on current FTAP projects and projected events including the recent awarding of the RACC grant for a neighborhood info kiosk at SE Works. FTAP has applied for Transportation and Growth Management grant and is awaiting word on the status of that awarding. The Masonic Temple is for sale, and Russian focused events are on the horizon for fall.
National Night Out:
National Night out is August 7th, and it will take place in lieu of our regular meeting. Planning is currently in the works to organize a neighborhood picnic in Kern Park. Live music needs to be scheduled and publicity worked out. Kathleen will update all present before the event.
Steve Witter made a motion to adjourn at 752pm. Tracy Gratto seconded that motion. The meeting was adjourned at 752pm.
