Foster-Powell Neighborhood Association

New Meeting Night

Please remember that Foster-Powell has a new meeting night, -- the second Monday of the month. Our next meeting is November 11. (Yes, on Veterans day.) There is already discussion asking to move the meeting to the third Monday. What does everyone think?
Hazardous Waste Presentation

At the November 11 meeting, we will have a presentation on household hazardous waste, including what is hazardous, why it is, some of the recent health and environment studies on certain products (especially pesticides), and Metro's program of collection and education. The speaker will also answer questions. The presentation will be first on the agenda, and is expected to take about 40 minutes.

Good News Tavern
A good neighbor agreement is being developed and should be available for a vote at the November 11 meeting. Most of the work will take place outside of the neighborhood association meeting, so if this issue is important to you, please call Rhetta Drennan at 503-232-0010, or e-mail her at rdrennan@ci.portland.or.us.

Foster Target Area
As the work with the Foster Target Area winds down, it is important for the neighborhood association to keep the good work going that was started during this project. Some of the accomplishments that can continue past the Target Area include the annual joint clean-up with Mt. Scott-Arleta, the Foster NewsTree (a joint publication with Creston-Kenilworth, and Mt. Scott-Arleta), and the distribution system for the newsletter. We will continue to have a part of each neighborhood meeting devoted to planning and accomplishing projects, and to learn how to happily combine the people who hate meetings with the people who don?’t want to do projects.

Why Come to Meetings?
Meetings are a great opportunity to meet your neighbors, learn about crime and crime prevention in the neighborhood, meet our police liaison person and ask questions, get announcements of general interest specific to our neighborhood, and learn about volunteer opportunities. If you have ideas for better, more meaningful meetings, come and share them. We are actively seeking people who want to be more involved, or who just want to come and share their ideas.

Meetings are now on the SECOND MONDAY of each month from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., at the St. Anthony Parish Hall, 3618 SE 79th (green and white building at south end of the complex-please use the south door). Call Cindy Peek at 775-3006 for more information, e-mail me at clpeek@aol.com, or check the website at www.neighborhoodlink.com/portland/foster.
