Dear Neighbors,

We are continuing to work on the good neighbor relations with Red?’s Bar & Grill and the Onyx Club.

Onyx Club
No neighbors came to the meeting because of problems at the Onyx Club, but the owners didn?’t come, either! After promising for two months in a row to visit with us at our monthly meeting, the Onyx owners have had yet another emergency that precluded them from keeping their promise. I believe the noise problems have improved since there were no neighbors at the meeting to complain, but there are continuing observed problems with parking lot and off-site drinking (the patrons were drinking in a car, threw the bottle over the fence and then were admitted to the club--the observer retrieved the Old English bottle and brought it to our meeting), broken liquor bottles, teens loitering in cars in the neighborhood, and teenagers out after curfew. The business may discontinue their Thursday evenings during the school year due to lack of business.

Red?’s Bar & Grill
The owners of Red?’s Bar & Grill did keep their promise and came to our meeting. No neighbors came to the meeting to follow up on Red?’s, so we can only hope the problems are mostly resolved. The owners have put up the fence, with slats, as promised, and have posted signs on the fence asking for quiet and courtesy in the parking lot. They have moved the parking for motorcycles toward Foster, and have asked their patrons to leave quietly. It looks like they are making a real effort to be good neighbors.

New Business at Dunkin Donuts location - Watch for Utopia Chinese Bar & Grill
A new Chinese-American restaurant is opening up across the street from the Onyx. It will have a full service bar and will not serve minors at any hour. The Lents Neighborhood Association has agreed to work with the new business on a good neighbor agreement. The menu is extremely varied. The owners have another business down on 82nd toward the Max station and I-84.

Foster Target Area
The Foster Target Area is progressing toward business revitalization along Foster Road. Surveys will be arriving at households close to the targeted businesses. Please take a few minutes to fill out the surveys. Your ideas are very valuable to help us move toward serving your needs and helping our neighborhood businesses.

Cemetery Fence
Have you noticed the survey stakes around the Pioneer Cemetery on 82nd & Holgate? We are getting very close to starting construction on a wrought-iron fence. Mr. Lent and the other pioneers will soon get a bit more respect on that corner.

Friends of Trees
Tree planting is starting up again. The people at Southeast Uplift can put you in touch with people who can help you add street trees at very little cost. Call Shanna Eller or Laura Feldman at 232-0010.

Meetings are always on the FIRST Tuesday of each month (except as noted above) from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., at the St. Anthony Parish Hall, 3618 SE 79th (green and white building at south end of the complex-please use the south door). Call Cindy Peek at 775-3006 for more information, or e-mail me at clpeek@aol.com; more information is available at www.neighborhoodlink.com/portland/foster.
