The Neighborhood College is headed for a great startup, with three courses to be offered at the 3rd District Community Justice Center (34th and Brown):

?¥?ŠHow to Buy Your First Home / Credit Repair Workshop Series on Mondays 6-7 p.m. starting September 10th
?¥ Handling Family Crises Workshop Series on Tuesdays 1-3 p.m. starting September 11th
?¥ Starting a Home-Based Business Workshop Series on Wednesdays 6:30-8 p.m. starting September 12th

The College is also co-sponsoring a workshop series by Westside Health Care Association on Maneuvering Through the Health Care System, to be taught at the Lisbon Avenue Community Health Center 3522 W. Lisbon. Information: Dorothy Jackson 934-6082. Registration may be full, but the workshop is likely to be offered again.

At the LANDFARE Neighborhood Street Festival Saturday August 11th, some 46 persons signed up for one or more of the first three courses to be held at the Community Justice Center.

Of a number of additional Project-Oriented Workshops suggestions, strong interest was expressed in two:

?¥ Brainstorming the creation of a Neighborhood Arts & Crafts Co-op
?¥ Brainstorming a Neighborhood Peace Memorial Sculpture to be fashioned of welded deactivated guns and rifles.

The Neighborhood College will seek to develop both workshop concepts for scheduling later this fall.

Meanwhile, if you think the resident-organized Neighborhood College of Milwaukee is a good idea, but you aren't ready to take a course, or volunteer to teach one, consider joining the Friends of Neighborhood College. We need your support to transform this good start into a lasting effort growing steadily both in its programs and in the target neighborhoods.
