About our association

Our Way of Saying Thanks

Our neighborhood association gives a Yard of the Month Award to those who work hard to make their property more attractive and we give a seasonal decorations award for the best holiday or decorations for each season. We give an annual IMPACT Award to the person or organization we feel has made a significant positive impact on the Whitehaven community, a BUSINESS OF THE YEAR Award to businesses who have stayed in our community and offer quality products/services at quality prices, and a COMMUNITY SERVICE Award to a person in Whitehaven who has gone above and beyond and given of themselves to help others.

Our Adopted School

We believe mentoring to the youth in our community is the most effective way of making our community a better place. We adopted Gardenview Elementary School and have a number of projects going on there. We also volunteer and conduct the Girls Shine club at A. Maceo Walker Middle School. We started and coach the girl's softball team, read to classes, buy books, supplies, uniforms, incentives and awards, and we are improving the landscape and outdoor classroom. In addition we started the Girls Shine club which gives fourth through seventh grade girls a place to talk out problems, find solutions, build self esteem, and take responsibility for their actions and their lives. The Girls Shine Mission Statement is "I will be the best I can be today so I will grow to be a woman who can make a difference tomorrow. I aim high, I reach high, I shine".

Our Community Efforts

We join with neighborhood churches, other organizations, associations, and schools who are trying to make our city a better place. We have participated and sponsored youth job fairs, senior citizen fairs, health fairs, and political information forums. We have our own Neighborhood Emergency Response Team and work toward being able to support our neighborhood within association boundaries in case of an emergency. We work with the Memphis Police Department, Fire Department, Sherriff's Office, Code Enforcement, District Attorney's Office, and Operation Safe Community to help make our neighborhood safe and crime free. We have frequent speakers at our meetings who bring important information on such items as the flu pandemic and predatory lending.
