Founded by D. Robert Johnson, M.D., Global Health Outreach has been largely self-funded since its inception in 1997. Prior to his work as President of Global Health Outreach, Dr. Johnson was in private practice as a Board Certified Orthopedic surgeon for over twenty-one years in Corona. He earned his medical degree from Loma Linda University Medical School (California) in 1961.
While still a medical student at Loma Linda University, Dr. Johnson began the first of many years' work, dedicated to humanitarian efforts.
Dr. Johnson has been affiliated with many humanitarian organizations,
including Orthopaedic Overseas, The International Medical Corps of Los Angeles, and Doctors Without Borders.
On October 15,1999, DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for all of their work since their inception in 1979. In 1992, Dr. Johnson traveled with DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS to Somalia as a civil war was erupting. Along with other medical professionals, he worked tirelessly, in dangerous conditions, to save as many lives as possible.
They treated patients lined up under thorn trees for shade, and had an unexplodedshell land in the recovery room. Fortunately for us all, the shell was a ''dud'', and Dr. Johnson returned home, safely.
Additionally, he has donated his talent and efforts to various church-related
programs around the world, including Seventh Day Adventist, Salvation Army, Catholic, Evangelical, Anglican and others. He has served as a medical advisor to a new medical school and performed surgeries without
charge, as well as provided medical assistance to a Catholic hospital and its
prison ministries.
Locally, Dr. Johnson is credited with organizing and serving as director, a free medical clinic at the Salvation Army's, Circle of Hope Homeless Shelter.
The clinic, staffed by volunteers from the local medical community, provides
quality medical care and free medication to those in need.
He remains active in numerous health service projects on a volunteer basis in Riverside County (California) and throughout southern California and is a member of the Corona Homeless Task Force.
