City of Green Spring

The City of Green Spring is located in the beautiful green and rolling hills of Eastern Jefferson County, Kentucky. Green Spring is a sixth Class City in the Commonwealth of Kentucky’s city designation system. Our location is ideal being located close to fine school systems, excellent recreational parks, key Ohio River points, and beautiful horse farms characteristic of the Kentucky blue grass region. The City takes pride in its residents who share a common vision of planned growth and development for our community that aims to preserve the character and natural beauty of the region.

Elected officials consist of a Mayor and four Commissioners. Under the administration of the City, each Commissioner is appointed by the Mayor to head up one of the four departments that conduct the basic operations of the city. The city departments consist of City Services, Transportation, Maintenance/Beautification and Finance. In addition, there is a professional city staff of appointed individuals who serve in the roles of City Clerk, Treasurer, City Attorney and the Board of Ethics. Other residents serve the city on special projects, events and committees.

Green Spring is totally residential consisting of about 800 residents with property values ranging from $100,000 to $350,000. The city encompasses a contiguous land area of about a half square mile.

While the city is too small to support its own police department, these services have been provided since 1991 under an inter-local agreement with our good neighbors, the City of Prospect. An active citywide block-watch group is also an integral part of the city’s overall security program.

Through strong fiscal planning and budget management, Green Spring enjoys a strong reserve balance and has been able to reduce the ad valorem tax rate over the past few years while continuing to provide a high level of quality services for city residents.

At the present time, the city is actively engaged in two key strategic issues that are viewed as having a significant impact on our residents and community. One is the proposed Eastern Ohio River Bridge and the other is for planned growth standards in Eastern Jefferson County. The Green Spring Commission is working closely with other suburban cities and civic leaders on these important issues.

The City of Green Spring recognized a key milestone in its long history in 1999, by celebrating its 25th Anniversary of incorporation as a city in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
