Clark Public Utilities
Wayne, an Energy Counselor from Clark Public Utilities gave a very informative talk about their services, and constructive ways to cut your utility bills. They will come out to your house for FREE and do an energy audit. They’ll look at all your appliances and heating/cooling systems and suggest improvements. The number to call to set up an audit is:360-992-3000. Some tips he gave us are:
· Seal up any cracks or holes to the outside of your house. Look under the sink where the pipes come in.
· Make sure you have plenty of insulation in the ceiling and walls.
· If you have zonal heating (wall heaters), close the doors to unused rooms. If you have central heat, open the doors to all the rooms.
· Clean filters, vents, and service your heater.
· Turning your heat down even a couple degrees, will reduce your bill.
Clark Public Utilities has a lot of information and resources for you. You can visit one of their offices or request it by phone. Don’t get caught off guard with a surprise ice storm, take precautions now.
Kaiser Development Team
Alene Stickles talked about the new Kaiser facility that will be built at 4th Plain and 137th. They expect to break ground February 2005, and the project will take one year to finish. The company is going to put a block wall on the East and North side of the project. They’ll do that first to help keep down the noise and dirt from the project. The North wall will have lights to avoid a long dark alleyway between the school and the property. The lights in the parking lot will be directed away from the houses. The property itself will be 2 story brick with nice landscaping, similar the Cascade Park Kaiser on Mill Plain. Entry into the facility will be right turn in off of 4th Plain, or a main entrance off 137th. They will use part of their property to create a turn lane by the corner, so traffic won’t get backed up on 4th Plain. They were very receptive to questions and ideas, and welcome comments or questions. You can call Alene at 503-417-4354, or e-mail astickles@zgf.com.
Farmers Insurance
Sacha Lewis talked a little about their program to work with communities and neighborhoods. They have a variety of speakers, and would like to come in once a quarter for a presentation. Some possible topics – child safety or making your house and car more “crime and accident proof”. She passed out a great Child ID kit, to fingerprint your child and list all their vital information (everything is included). If you missed out on these and want one, give her a call 360-571-4666
Meeting Adjourned.
