That?’s right! HTNA has joined forces with FRI. If some of you are still wondering what the relationship is between our neighborhood association and FRI, here are the facts:
In 2003 members of FRI approached the newly formed HTNA and offered their assistance to fight crime and help revitalize our neighborhood. They presented what they had been able to achieve in their area over the previous five years and the more we learned about them, the more sense it made to align ourselves with such a successful organization. In the three years that we have been working with FRI we have had many successes. In 2006 through the efforts of the FRI people, our own HTNA members, and many others, the area known as ?“2-points?” (of which HTNA is a part) received a grant from the Department of Justice for approximately $1,000,000.00 to be used over a period of 5 years. THIS MONEY DOES NOT BELONG TO ANY NEIGHBORHOOD ORGANIZATION. This money is used to implement the federal crime prevention strategy, known as Weed and Seed - weeding out the crime and negative influences and seeding our neighborhoods with programs designed to benefit the citizens of our neighborhoods. Members of FRI along with involved citizens from the entire 2-points area are currently working on a number of projects designed to make our area a safer and more desirable place to live. Some will be funded largely from the Weed and Seed money and others may have different funding sources. Below are some examples of programs outlined in the 2005 proposed budget submitted to the DOJ:
?• Provide alcohol and drug prevention services
?• Provide better education opportunities
?• Increased police patrols to assist in crime prevention
?• Increase economic opportunities, growth, and new jobs in the 2-points community
?• Neighborhood restoration / bringing new businesses into our area
?• Beautification of our neighborhoods
