The name Holmby Hills was named afer Holdenby, in England. The area was originally considered too hilly for large residential subdivision. The neighborhood began to develop in the late 1920s with the location of UCLA to the so-called 'Westwood Hills'.
Holmby-Westwood is one of the most desirable neighborhoods in the city- with its distinctive homes, and beautifully landscaped streets. A thriving business, shopping, and entertainment district is in close proximity in Westwood Village, and UCLA flanks the neighborhood's Western border at Hilgard Avenue.
The Holmby-Westwood Property Owners Association (H-WPOA) serves a 1100 home community. It was founded in 1960 and will be celebrating 50 years of proud service to the community in 2010. This volunteer association has a Board of Directors, elected annually at the April General Membership Meeting. Meetings are generally held monthly. Paid up members are welcome at Board meetings provided they secure advance seating confirmation.
The associaion is composed of volunteers, who work together to make the community a wonderful place to live.
Holmby-Westwood is blessed with a perfect location and a picturesque setting withing the LA Basin; close to major transportation routes, cooled by the Pacific, adjacent to a major college, upscale shopping, restaurants, cultural and entertainment venues, and with a local elementary school that ranks among the scholasstically best in the State.
