Social Christy Pond 303.325.7329

The meeting was called to order by the President at 10am at InterCanyon Fire Department #3. Homeowners from the Homestead and Golden Meadows were present at the meeting.

InterCanyon Fire Chief Dave McBean spoke to the group about the past year and the precautions everyone should make for this year. Because it is exceedingly dry everyone needs to be aware of the fire danger. The fire department needs help and is looking for volunteers. Many kinds of skills are needed, not just fighting fires. Please consider volunteering this year. Chief McBean spoke about the need for a new fire station at #1 location on Turkey Creek. The new equipment which was purchased from the funds approved by the electorate is too tall for the existing structure. Good news is that our equipment is now in good shape! A donation of $300 was presented to the Chief from the Homestead Association.

The minutes of the Jan/Feb meeting were approved.

Dave Pond gave the architecture report. Several small projects were approved this past year.

Thanks to Jerry Kroninger and members of the board for securing a new entrance sign for the Homestead. Jerry will be repairing the street sign on Quartz Trail and Mariposa later this spring.

Treasurer Merida Blackwell reported we had a rather large expense to replace the Homestead Sign at Mariposa and 285. There are still 13 homes that have not paid dues for 2009. Please do so ASAP. Your support and cooperation is needed.

The 2009 Homeowner?’s Directory is now available, and will be hand-delivered. Thanks to Ginny Riley for updating and printing the new edition!

Christy Pond gave the Social Committee report.

Carolyn Norblom volunteered to fill the post of Secretary on the Board.

Guest Speakers: Ed Spence of Natural Resources Conservation Project

THE HOMESTEAD HAS BEEN AWARDED A FIRE MITIGATION GRANT!

Thanks to the efforts of Ginny Riley and other volunteers in the community, our
Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) has enabled us to secure a grant of $109,000 for fire mitigation. The grant is 60% from them, 40% IN-KIND (we work off our portion) to receive these funds. This equates to approximately 2200 man/woman/child hours, mostly hauling slash from where the professional contractors drop it. They will provide a shredder, and the whole project is managed by the Jefferson Conservation District. There will be a committee formed to plan this process and explain the guidelines to everyone in the Homestead/ Golden Meadows area. It appears that the time that individuals put into fire mitigation work on the neighborhood?’s defensible spaces and fire breaks will be eligible to count in our tally of volunteer hours towards the grant.

The actual grant money is to create fuel breaks and improve egress routes along two roads at the north end of the Homestead and Golden Meadows area.
If you are interested in helping with this project, give committee chair Ginny Riley a call at 303.697.9166

We also were made aware of a state tax credit which is available for expenses incurred for mitigation work started Jan 1 2009-2014. A $2500 cap exists :HB1110. Thanks to Dana Roe with Firewood to Logging tree services for making us aware of this.

Insurance companies are looking more closely at each home. Your defensible space efforts may ensure your house insurance is not canceled. If you have any questions about defensible space around your home give InterCanyon Fire a call
at 303.697.4413 and they will visit your home and give you an evaluation.
