Hounds of the Heartland began as geographical extension of GPAOK located in Tulsa, OK to better serve the Oklahoma City Metro area. Our efforts started with four volunteers making a commitment to strive toward making adoption an option for greyhounds that would otherwise be euthanized. Our group started conducting adoptions in May 2000 and we have currently placed over 110 greyhound into permanent indoor pet homes. After two years, we have developed a dedicated volunteer base and have heightened public awareness of our local efforts.
We are currently in the process of becoming a chapter under the National direction of Greyhound Pets of America serving Central Oklahoma and surrounding communities.
Our Chapter:
Greyhound Pets of Central Oklahoma is an incorporated, 501-3c not for profit group under the National direction of Greyhound Pets of America. The following is a list of our officers and we abide by the National procedures and by-laws of Greyhound Pets of America.
President - Diana Burnett
Vice President - Candee Scott
Secretary - Jennifer Pendergraft
Treasurer - Shelley Dobson
Our group takes a neutral position when it comes to the pros and cons of the greyhound racing industry. It is our intentions to work with breeders, owners and kennel managers in an effort to improve relationships that will result in more greyhounds being donated to our groups for placement as pets.
