TEN STEPS FOR SAFETY
1. Know your neighbors.
2. Assist your neighbors by watching their property.
3. Ask your neighbors to watch your property.
4. Instruct your family on how to answer the door or telephone with safety in mind.
5. If you live near a school, establish a connection with the school officials.
6. Be suspicious: Report suspicious salesmen.
Report suspicious cars.
Report anything that is unusual to you.
7. Attend scheduled neighborhood meetings and keep informed of community problems and crime trends.
8. Know your local Sheriff’s Deputies and Police Officers.
9. Learn what you can about the details the Sheriff’s Office or Police Department will need when you contact them in regard to crimes or suspicious activity.
10. Investigate: - If your dog is barking, see why!
- If someone screams, see why!
- If you determine there is a problem, call for help!
- Do not take unreasonable chances! Don’t try to be a hero!
- Do not take the law into your own hands!
- Help Law Enforcement make your neighborhood safe – be a concerned citizen!
