Welcome to the Island Gymnastics Travel Team! Your daughter/son has been invited to participate as part of a gymnastics competition team. She/he must put in a lot of hours of hard work to train for gymnastic competition. You, as a parent/guardian, are also investing time and money to train your prospective athlete. However, training is just part of the competition equation. The gymnasts must be enrolled in amateur athletic organizations that organize and conduct gymnastic competitions. They and their gym must be registered for each individual meet. Travel arrangements must be made for them for them and their coaches.

How the Booster Club helps

Island Gymnastics Travel Team Boosters Club, Inc. is a nonprofit corporation established to aid in raising the funds needed by the gymnasts to compete in amateur athletic events. The Booster Club registers prospective gymnasts for the individual meets and makes and pays for the travel arrangements for the coaching staff of Island Gymnastics. The Board of Directors of the Booster Club are volunteers elected from the parents/guardians of the competing gymnasts.

Gymnastic competition may seem pricey to may people. However, keep in mind that it is a physically demanding sport that requires professional coaches and specialized equipment. It is estimated that each gymnast will require $500 per competitive AAU season to cover registration, meet fees and offsite coaching fees. To finance these costs, the Booster Club arranges fundraising activites and events.

The Booster Club typically organizes sponsorship drives, ''tag days' and car washes and participates at community fundraising events. The profit from these events are deposited into a checking account maintained by the Booster Club Treasurer.

Are you ready to compete?

Island Gymnastics Travel Team primarily competes in events sanctioned by the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU: see www.aausports.org). The competition season starts in January and ends with the State finals in May and National competion in June. The bulk of fundraising is done in the fall, September through December.

So are you ready to compete? Remember, the Booster Club is a volunteer organization and you need to participate to have your opinions heard. Please come to the meetings.
